Ohio Watercolor Collaborations: March 2011

The following is a series of collaborations between Matthew Addison. In making these collaborations, we reference photos, books, experiences, stories, ideas, color, mark and material. We mix mediums and react to each other during the process of making. Some are more literal, and others playful. We hope you enjoy!

Collaboration with Matthew 4: Memamma's Birthday
watercolor, gouache and colored pencil on paper
18" x 24" March 2011

Matthew and I collaborated on this piece on March 12, 2011, the birthday of my late grandmother and first art teacher, Katherine Kilgore. This day is also the 2nd anniversary of my friend Susie's mother's passing, and one month after Global Prema Agni Day. Lots of memories and emotions welled up when we made this one, as we were using photos of Memamma's (our nick-name for Katherine) farm, her animals, her studio and her weaving.

Matthew emulated the weaving with bands of color that resemble a native blanket. Memamma can be seen weaving in the upper-middle of the piece. She is also featured in the lower center with a necklace. Her animals Foster, Wally, Keeper and Kahlilah are hidden in there, as well as the studio with its dark windows in the upper center. Also in the piece are beings sitting in lotus position (upper left) and sharing open hearts (lower right). Healers and Teachers Derek O'Neill, Sai Baba and Jesus found their way into the piece, overlapping images from Memamma's scrap-book. Another wonderful teacher is Linda O'Neill, whose presence I felt while painting.

Written in Sai Baba's hair is the message "Love Love Love," inspired by Karen Goldsmith's wonderful channeled piece that I bought at the March 2011 More Truth Will Set You Free workshop. You can find a Prema Agni symbol, cave paintings and other hidden gems. Look and see what you can find. Enjoy exploring and don't forget your loved ones who have passed away.
